Al Maloof is the managing partner of GJB Consulting LLC (GJBC), an affiliate of Genovese Joblove & Battista P.A., a South Florida law firm. His expertise encompasses all aspects of local, state and national government affairs, public sector business and procurements, and the specialized development of land parcels and other real estate.
For more than 25 years, Maloof has provided strategic and business advice for projects related to transportation and infrastructure, procurement, public policy and government relations for corporations, institutions, associations and individuals. He has been involved in major projects, valued in the billions of dollars, employing thousands of individuals. His key sectors include A&E, aviation, seaports, construction, transportation and infrastructure build-out including fleets, water & wastewater, financial services, automation, rail/bus, communications, energy, public safety, security, and technology.
After being appointed by the Governor of the State of Florida to assess the operations of the Florida Department of Transportation, Maloof reviewed roadways and tolls, railways, ITS, projects alternative delivery methods and technology, which ultimately resulted in a newly restructured department. He was subsequently appointed by the FDOT Secretary to serve with the Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Policy & Planning on the Florida Transportation Plan Steering Committee, which advised on developing the state's multimodal transportation plan.
Maloof served as chairman of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) Operations Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee and the Intergovernmental/Communications and Policy & Planning Committees prior to retiring in 2013. MDX oversees the planning, designing, funding, construction, procurement, contracts and operations of the county's expressways and toll-highways.
Over the last quarter century, Maloof has served on numerous official boards, committees and task forces, including review commissions, planning boards, transition teams, guaranty funds, and oversight and advisory bodies. He was appointed to the Miami-Dade County Performance & Efficiency Commission, which reviewed the operations, processes, structure and procedures of one of the largest regional governments in the United States, with a budget of $7 billion.
Maloof served a graduate management level internship inside Miami-Dade County government, ultimately working in the Office of Performance Improvement. He received a state cabinet level appointment, ultimately serving as vice chair of an insurance guaranty fund, along with Florida's Insurance Commissioner. He served on his county's quasi-judicial law enforcement board, and subsequently elected chairman. He also was a board member and chair of the largest regional statutory local planning and land use agency in Florida.
Maloof is a member of the American Public Transportation Association, serving on numerous committees and panels including procurement, bus, rail, government affairs, legislative and member services. He is also member of the Design Build Institute of America and numerous other industry and community and not-for-profit organizations. He is not a member of the Bar. In addition to serving as a youth mentor over the years, he enjoys serving as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
