FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Miami-Dade Approves $200 Million For Largest Bus Expansion In County History MIAMI, FL - APRIL 25, 2006 - The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved the largest bus procurement in County history today. The approval will allow Miami Dade to proceed to upgrade its bus system including equipment, maintenance and routes for the County's 2 million residents as well as bring service to Monroe and Broward Counties. There are also plans to provide feeders into Palm Beach's Tri-Rail southern lines. The County's purchase, valued at $200 million, could ultimately add 600 additional buses, bringing the current fleet to around 2000 buses. Al Maloof, who has been working on various projects with Miami Dade County since the half-penny tax vote to support the People’s Transportation Plan initiatives, is a veteran in local, state and federal politics and governmental affairs and oversees the firm's offices in Miami, Tallahassee and Washington, DC. GJB is the public contracting and lobbying affiliate of the law firm of Genovese Joblove & Battista, PA. "This procurement is significant in that Miami-Dade Transit serves all of south Florida into the Florida Keys, as well as north into Broward County. The new bus program includes purchasing small 30 foot buses, which can go further into neighborhoods to pick up passengers, turn around and get back onto major routes. This will increase rider-ship and give the citizens more value. This procurement is so significant as it allows the citizens to benefit from a major component of the People Transportation Plan, which voted to set aside a half penny for transit improvement," said Mr. Maloof. Maloof, a member of the American Public Transportation Association, is no stranger to transit. He has been actively involved representing companies pursuing major transit and other procurements in Florida. He served Florida's governor as a member of the Administration's post-election transition team providing agency review was a board member of the Florida Transportation Plan Steering Committee. ### Distributed By: |
