Please send an e-mail to Attorney Michael D. Joblove or Attorney Jonathan E. Perlman if you would like more information about the firm's Employment Law practice. GJB maintains an active practice in the growing area of employment law. Our attorneys, from offices in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, counsel businesses throughout Florida and nationally on various types of employment policies, and prepare and update manuals containing policies that, in complying with state and federal legislation and regulations, protect the rights of both employers and employees. The attorneys stay abreast of administrative, legislative, and judicial law concerning sexual harassment, sex discrimination, age discrimination, disability and pregnancy, as well as AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. We put special emphasis on developing laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), continuation of insurance coverage under COBRA, the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act, and various states' labor and employment laws. GJB is a leading firm in providing representation concerning issues arising under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We have defended a major oil company and a worldwide fast service food franchisor in nationwide class actions brought under the ADA, and we represent numerous other clients in ADA actions involving multiple places of public accommodation. Additionally, we have negotiated consent decrees with the U.S. Department of Justice resolving issues of ADA compliance. Our attorneys regularly counsel employers as to their obligations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Additionally we have successfully prosecuted multiple national FLSA class actions on behalf of employees of major corporations who were not receiving overtime compensation as required, which have resulted in settlements providing for the payment of millions of dollars to class members. The firm has recently concluded a national suit against Credit Suisse First Boston, recovering overtime pay for the worldwide brokerage firm's nonexempt U.S. employees. GJB also has drafted and extensively negotiated executive employment and employment separation agreements on behalf of both employers and executive employees, addressing such issues as incentive compensation, confidentiality, non-competition clauses and waiver of the right to sue under various anti-discrimination acts. If you would like to speak with a member of our litigation practice to discuss legal representation, or have any other question, please contact our Miami or Fort Lauderdale office. We will respond promptly. |
