Ongoing Efforts in 321 Loans Case From Court-Appointed Receiver, Jonathan E. Perlman of Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A.
MIAMI, FL (July 15, 2020) – Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A. shareholder Jonathan E. Perlman, as the court-appointed Receiver for 321 Loans, Inc. and over 30 other related entities, led efforts on behalf of thousands of defrauded consumers who are now receiving over $16 million in redress from the Federal Trade Commission.
In May of 2017, the FTC and Office of the Attorney General for the State of Florida filed an enforcement case against Jeremy Lee Marcus, 321 Loans and other entities engaged in a phony debt relief scheme that extracted over $67 million from thousands of consumers. In connection with the debt relief scheme, consumers paid millions of dollars and received little, if anything, in return. Many of those individuals, some of whom were already in financial distress, elderly or disabled, were left in worse financial positions, sued by their creditors and even forced into bankruptcy. (Federal Trade Commission, et al. v. Jeremy Lee Marcus, et al., Case No. 17-60907-CIV-MORENO).
The Court appointed Perlman as Receiver over all Marcus’ entities and entered injunctive relief, shutting down the business while he managed and investigated the companies’ affairs and sought to marshal and recover assets for eventual redress and distribution to victims. The Receiver is continuing his efforts to find recoveries for additional future redress.
“I am extremely proud of the results, to date, in the mission to recover funds for consumers, many of whom are elderly and vulnerable. This is a testament to the diligent work of many individuals over several years,” said Perlman.
Perlman is represented by attorneys Gregory M. Garno and Michael A. Friedman, also of Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A.
