Michael A. Friedman focuses his on complex commercial litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and business disputes. Michael has extensive experience representing parties in all aspects of bankruptcy and litigation stemming from insolvency proceedings. He frequently represents bankruptcy trustees and receivers appointed by state and federal courts in complex litigation and has represented fiduciaries in high-profile cases stemming from Ponzi schemes and insolvent enterprises, helping recover millions of dollars for victims of fraudulent schemes.
Michael currently serves on the firm’s team as Special Litigation Counsel to the Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Title III debtors in the current Puerto Rico insolvency proceedings (“PROMESA”), including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Electric and Power Authority, Employees Retirement System, and the Highways and Transportation Authority.
Michael has lectured and co-authored articles on the topic of involuntary bankruptcy. He has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Florida Super Lawyers and an “Up and Comer” by Florida Trend. He is an active member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar.
Michael is a member of The Florida Bar and admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Third Circuit, and the U.S. District Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Michael served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Paul G. Hyman, Jr. in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. He received his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of Florida. As a member of the Florida moot court team, he received awards for Best Advocate and Best Brief in regional competitions. He was also a member of the Florida Law Review, and selected for membership in the Order of the Coif. He earned his bachelor of fine arts, summa cum laude, from the University of Florida.
